Abstract
The Right to Information (RTI) Act of 2005 [1] represents a pivotal moment in India's democratic journey, fundamentally altering the power dynamic between the state and its citizens. Prior to its enactment, government functioning was shrouded in a culture of secrecy, a legacy of colonial rule and a lack of accountability. The RTI Act empowered ordinary citizens to demand information from public authorities, thereby promoting transparency and accountability in governance. This legislation serves as a crucial tool for fighting corruption, as it enables citizens to scrutinize government decisions, expenditures, and policies. servants answerable to the people they serve, the Act reinforces the principle that sovereignty rests with the people. It has been instrumental in exposing various scams, inefficiencies, and malpractices, leading to a more vigilant and informed citizenry. The RTI Act is not merely a legal instrument; it is a socio-political revolution that has strengthened the foundations of Indian democracy by re-establishing governance. It has restored faith in democratic institutions by making them more open and responsive, proving to be a cornerstone in the country's ongoing effort to build a more inclusive and just society. The Act has transcended its initial purpose to become a symbol of empowered citizenship and a beacon of good governance.
